The Spiritual Danger of Isolation
You can live in isolation by physically separating yourself from contact with other people. Generally understood not to be a good idea. That is easy to spot.
But more often, people create isolation not by physically separating from society but by creating a welcoming, but exclusive circle of people for themselves in which there is no or limited accountability.
We can see this in a character like Trump. He suffers from living in isolation simply because his circle over the years has included only "yes men." He has never learned to VALUE instruction and reproof, much less to place himself in a position of accountability to "someone" greater than himself.
But don't start thinking that Trump is an outlier. Much to the contrary, he is a characature of society.
How does this relate to ecclesiology?
See James 2-3.
14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
